Body Composition
The ratio of lean body mass (muscles, bones, tissues, and organs) to fat mass (weight of fat tissue) in the body.
Lean Body Mass
The components of the body consisting of muscles, bones, tissues, and organs.
Body Composition Assessment Examples
Skin Calipers, Bioelectrical Impedance Monitor, Hydrostatic Weighing, DEXA Scan, and Air Displacement (BodPod).
Flexibility
The ability of the muscles to move through their full Range of Motion (ROM).
Range of Motion (ROM)
The full extent to which muscles and joints can move, associated with flexibility.
Flexibility Exercise Examples
Standing Hamstring Stretch, Side Bend, Tricep Stretch, and Standing Quadricep Stretch.
Cardiovascular Endurance
The ability of the body's circulatory and respiratory systems to supply fuel (oxygen) during sustained physical activity.
Muscular Strength
The ability of the muscle to exert force during an activity, such as during a 1 Rep Max.
1 Rep Max
A specific measure of muscular strength where a muscle exerts maximum force during a single repetition of an activity.
Muscular Endurance
The ability of muscles to perform a task without getting fatigued.
Benefits of Muscular Strength
A reduced chance of injury, improved posture, physical performance, and body composition.
Muscular Endurance Exercise Examples
Locomotor movements, exercises done repeatedly, Planks, and Sit-Ups.
Cardiovascular Endurance Improvement
Engaging in activities that keep the heart rate elevated at a safe level for a sustained length of time, such as fast walking, swimming, or biking.
