Description
Using observation to describe a stimulus. Facts that are derived from systematically observed events.
Prediction
Guessing the probability of 1 event occurring when another event occurs.
Control
An experimental demonstration that manipulating 1 event (IV) results in a change in another event (DV) and this change can only be attributable to the IV.

Public Event
events that are reliably seen, measured directly and consistently. you can see them happening.
Private Event
Thoughts, feelings, or things that happen under the skin (Heart rate, hormones etc.)
EAB
controlled lab setting, with anmials
ABA
research, experimentation, or clinical work that involves humans in real world settings. Applied and socially significant.
Professional Practice
using EAB and ABA to help clients (ex: working on RBTs or OBM)
Behavior
organism interacting with the environment.
Dead-Man’s Test
If a dead man can do it, it is not a behavior. Dead man can get rained on.
Non-example of Behavior
Dead Man test and State of being.
Response
a single instance of behavior (ex: one tap on the desk)
Response Class
group of responses that serve the same function not topographies. (ex: different ways to make a latte) Occur in the same environmental context
Stimulus
an energy change that affects an organism through its receptor cells. A noise, an object, a person, a sensation.
Antecedent
stimulus that evokes or abates a behavior
Consequence
stimulus that impacts future of behavior (R/P)
Stimulus Control
a change in the environment that changes bx (ex: you stay in normally, but friends are in town, so you stay up)
Stimulus Class
a group of stimuli that share common elements (formal, temporal, functional, arbitrary) it doesn’t mean the response is the same
Formal Stimulus Class
physical/topography similarities (ex: size, color, shape)
Temporal Stimulus Class
TIME both are antecedents or both are consequences
Functional Stimulus Class
same effect on behavior (ex: stop sign, stop gesture, saying stop)
Arbitrary Stimulus Class
evoke same response but not formally similar (sd: apple, banana, and grape R: fruit)
Respondent Behavior
reflexes, unconditioned (unlearned) responses to specific stimuli

Habituation
repeated presentation of the stimulus causes the behavior to diminish

neutral stimulus to gains the ability to elicit reflexes through respondent conditioning. (think Pavlov)

Concurrent Schedule
2+ contingencies of R+ for 2+ behaviors at the same time (ex: play alone vs peers)
Concurrent Matching Law
proportionate their responses to match each schedule (ex: FR1 -alone FR5- peers)
Mixed Schedule
alternate, random, sequenced. no SD (ex: R+ after 5 math problems or 10 mins of work) (you can’t tell which one is being ran)
Multiple Schedule
two or more basic schedules in an alternating random fashion paired with SDs to indicate which one is happening
ex: test forms are on different colors on paper.
Chained Schedule
2+ basic schedules. SD correlated with the scheduie. Occur in a specific order. Behavior might be the same for elements in the chain. Cndiitoned R+ is in the next step in the chain for the previous step until the end of the chain is complete.
ex: brush teeth
Tandem Schedule
2+ occur successively in correct order in a time (5 responses in 10 min).
ex: Jim’s trainer wants him to complete workout routine in the correct order AND with right amount of reps
Alternative Schedule
provides R+ when they meet the response requirement of any of the schedules.
ex: run 8 laps of run for 15 mins
Conjunctive Schedule
provides R+ wheen 2 or more schedules are completed (ALL) If R portion is completed wait for the first R after time interval is done.
Automatic Mediated Contingencies
bx is evoked, shaped, maintained, or weakened by variables w/o direct manipulation by other people (non-social) ex: red light, hunger, pain
