Smooth ER
a network of membrane-bound tubes inside plant and animal cells that makes lipids, processes toxins, and stores calcium
Centrosome Matrix
s a dense protein network surrounding the centrioles that nucleates, anchors, and organizes cellular microtubules, concentrated around the centrioles
Nucleus
A membrane-bound organelle found in eukaryotic cells (cells with a distinct nucleus) that houses the cell's genetic material (DNA). It is often called the "brain" or control center of the cell.
Microtubules
tiny, hollow tube-like structures inside the cytoplasm of plant and animal cells that help support cell shape, move organelles, and separate chromosomes during cell division
Nucleolus
a dense, membrane-free structure inside the nucleus of a cell that builds the parts needed to make proteins
Centrioles
barrel like, Help organize the mitotic spindle that pulls and separates chromosomes into daughter cells during mitosis and meiosis
Rough ER
a continuous membrane organelle in eukaryotic cells that is studded with ribosomes and plays a central role in protein synthesis
Ribosomes
microscopic cellular structures made of ribosomal RNA and proteins that act as the primary site for protein synthesis in all living cells
Chromatin
a complex mixture of DNA, RNA, and proteins that packages long DNA molecules into a compact, dense structure inside the nucleus of eukaryotic cells
Lysosome
a membrane-bound cell organelle that contains digestive enzymes to break down waste, old cell parts, and foreign invaders
Golgi Apparatus
a membrane-bound cell organelle that modifies, sorts, and packages proteins and lipids for transport to different locations inside and outside the cell
Nuclear Envelope
a double-membrane barrier that surrounds and protects the genetic material inside the nucleus of a eukaryotic cell
Cytosol
the clear, jelly-like fluid that fills the inside of a cell and surrounds the cell's internal parts
Mitochondrion
membrane-bound cell organelles that generate most of the chemical energy needed to power a cell's biochemical reactions
Peroxisome
a small, membrane-bound organelle found in the cytoplasm of nearly all eukaryotic cells that metabolizes fats and neutralizes toxic substances
Intermediate Filaments
ropelike cytoskeletal structures with an average diameter of 10 nanometers that provide mechanical strength and support to eukaryotic cells
