What is a network?
An arrangement of computers and other devices connected together to share resources and data.
What are the three types of networks?
Local Area Network (LAN), Wide Area Network (WAN), Personal Area Network (PAN).
What is a client-server network?
A network with at least one server that provides services to client computers.
What is a peer-to-peer network?
A network that has no dedicated servers, where each computer can act as both a client and a server.
What protocol is used for sending emails?
SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol).
What is the purpose of a firewall?
A firewall monitors and controls incoming and outgoing network traffic based on predetermined security rules.
What is the function of DNS?
DNS (Domain Name Service) translates domain names into IP addresses.
What does IPv4 stand for?
Internet Protocol version 4, which uses a 32-bit address scheme giving about 4.3 billion unique addresses.
What does IPv6 stand for?
Internet Protocol version 6, which uses a 128-bit address scheme, allowing for a vastly greater number of unique addresses.
Name one characteristic of bus topology.
Only one message can be sent at a time, making it prone to collisions.
What is the difference between HTTP and HTTPS?
HTTPS is the secure version of HTTP, encrypting data for secure transmission.
What is bandwidth?
The amount of data that can be transmitted over a network in a given period.
What is latency?
The delay encountered in data transmission over a network.
What are location-based services?
Services that provide users with information based on their geographic location.
What is the role of a router?
A device that forwards data packets between computer networks.
What is the purpose of TCP in networking?
TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) provides reliable communication between computers.
What are e-waste and its environmental impacts?
E-waste refers to discarded electronic devices; it can leak hazardous materials and contribute to pollution.
What is one ethical concern related to big data?
The potential invasion of privacy by collecting and analyzing personal information.
What does two-factor authentication do?
It adds an extra layer of security by requiring two forms of identification before granting access.
What is a VPN?
A Virtual Private Network that creates a secure connection over the Internet.
