5 or more symptoms during the same 2 week period. One must be depressed mood or lost of interest/pleasure

can a person have had a manic or hypomanic episode and still be diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder?
No. A history or manic or hypomanic episodes excludes the diagnoses (unless substance- or medically-induced)
