French Verb Tenses

Present Tense

Drop the endings of your verbs ( er, re, ir), and add the appropriate endings.

For a present tense RE verb, add the endings

s,s, t, ons, ex, ent

For a present tense er verb, add the endings

e, es, e, ons, ez, ent

For a present tense IR verb, add the endings

is, is, it, issons, issez, issent

In the present tense, if nous form verbs end with ger you

add an extra e

In the present tense, if nous form verbs end with her, you

change it to çer

The equation for future proche is

helping verb ( être/ avoir) and past participle

To form the past participle with er verbs you

take away the endings add an è

to form the past participle with re verbs you

take away the endings, add a u

to form the past participle with IR verbs you

take away the endings and add an I

In the passe compose with avoir there is ___ ( agreement/ no agreement)

no agreement unless the D.O is before the verb

In the passe compose with être, the agreement is with
