Acitretin

Acitretin

Adalimumab

Alefacept

Anthralin

Bethamethasone

Cyclosporine

Etanercept

Hydrocortisone

Hydrocortisone Valerate

Infliximab

This treatment for psoriasis has a brand name of Remicade and is available in 100 mg SDV. Its route of administration is through IV and the common adult dosage is 5 mg/kg at zero, two and six weeks, followed by 5 mg/kg every six weeks.

Methotrexate

This treatment for psoriasis has a brand name of Rheumatrex and is available in 2.5 mg tablets. Its route of administration is oral and the common adult dosage is 7.5 mg once weekly, divided into three doses.

Tazarotene

Ustekinumab

This treatment for psoriasis has a brand name of Stelara and is available in 45 mg and 90 mg PFS, as well as 45 mg and 90 mg SDV. Its route of administration is SC and the common adult dosage is 45-90 mg initially and four weeks later, followed by 45-90 mg every 12 weeks.

Impetigo

This skin condition is common in children, however adults can get infected. It is caused by streptococcal bacterium and is extremely contagious through skin contact, sheets, towels, clothing, toys, and other items. It appears as small red sores and then develops into blisters that break open. Scratching and itching at the sores can cause the infection to spread. Medical treatment for this includes ABX, topical ointments, and isolation due to the contagious nature of the condition.

Mupirocin

This treatment for impetigo has a brand name of Bactroban and is available as a 2% Cream or Ointment. Its route of administration is topical and the common adult dosage is to apply thrice daily.

Retapamulin

This treatment for impetigo has a brand name of Altabax and is available as a 1% ointment. Its route of administration Topical and the common adult dosage is to apply twice daily for five days.

Acne

This is the most common skin disease, and it occurs in almost 85% of people between the ages of 12 and 14. It has two type, Noninflammatory and Inflammatory. noninflammatory consists of whiteheads and blackheads due to tracked sebum and dirt. Inflammatory consists of papules and and pustules that occur due to the breaking of a follicle wall.

Clindamycin Topical

This treatment for acne has a brand name of Cleocin T which is available as a 10 mg/mL gel or lotion. Its route of administration is topical and the common adult dosage is to apply twice daily.

Doxyclycine

This treatment for acne has a brand name of Monoday or Oracea it is available in 50, 75, or 100 mg capsules. Its route of administration is Oral and the common adult dosage is 100-200 mg daily.

Erythromycin Topical

This treatment for acne has a band name of Erygel or Staticin and is available as a 1.5% solution or 2% gel. Its route of administration is topical and the common adult dosage is to apply once or twice daily.

Isotretinoin

This treatment for acne has a brand name of Accutane and is available as 10 mg, 20 mg, or 40 mg capsules. Its route of administration is oral and the common adult dosage is 0.5 to 1 mg/kg/day for 15 to 20 weeks.

Minocycline

This treatment for acne is known as Minocin and is available as 50 mg or 100 mg capsules. Its route of administration is oral and the common adult dosage is 100-200 mg daily.

Tetracycline

This treatment for acne has a brand name of Sumycin and is available as 250 mg and 500 mg tablets. Its route of administration is oral and the common adult dosage is 125-250 mg four times daily for one to two weeks, the decrease to 125-500 mg daily.

Tretinoin

This treatment for acne has a brand name of Retin-A Renova and is available as a cream. Its route of administration is topical and the common adult dosage is to apply once daily.

First-Degree Burns

This burn results in limited damage to the epidermis and is characterized by redness and pain. It is considered a superficial burn.

Second-Degree Burns

This burn causes damage to both the epidermis and the dermis; characterized by redness, blisters, mild to moderate edema, and pain. Considered a moderate burn.

Third-Degree Burns

This burn results in complete destruction of the epidermis, dermis, and subcutaneous (SC) tissue; characterized by a leathery or dry, white brown, or black appearance. Blistering doesn't occur and these burns are usually critical and skin grafting is recommended.

Fourth-Degree Burns

This burn results in destruction of the skin and underlying tissues (muscles, tendons, ligaments, and bones). Considered critical burns and skin grafts are required.

"Rule of Nines"

A method to estimate the amount of body surface that has been burnt. One arm is 9%, the groin is 1%, and one leg is 18%.

Silver Sulfadiazine

This treatment for burns has a brand name of Silvadene and is available as a cream. Its route of administration is topical and when applied at a 1/16 inch thick layer, oxygen can pass through to promote healing.

Mafenide Acetate

This treatment for burns has a brand name for Sulfamylon and is another anti-infective cream used to treat burns.

Lice

This parasitic infestation is caused by Pediculus Humanus Capitis. There are two types, head and genital and both can be completely treated. Symptoms include sores on the scalp, itching, and a feeling like something is moving within the hair. They can lice anywhere one the body such as the legs, armpits, mustache, eyebrows, and beards. This can be cured with OTC treatments and prescription medication.

Benzyl Alcohol

This treatment for lice has a brand name of Ulesfia and is available as a 5% Lotion. Its route of administration is topical and the common adult dosage is to apply to dry hair, leave on for 10 minutes, and then rinse; repeat after seven days if still present.

Lindane

This treatment for lice has a brand name of Kwell and it is available has a 1% shampoo. Its route of administration is topical and the common adult dosage is to apply directly to dry hair without adding water. Work thoroughly into the hair and allow to remain in place for four minutes, and then add small quantities of water to hair until a good lather forms. Immediately rinse all lather away.

Malathion

This treatment for lice has a brand name of Ovide and is available as a 0.5% lotion. Its route of administration is topical and the common adult dosage is to apply to dry hair and allow to dry naturally. Shampoo after 8-12 hours; repeat after seven to nine days if lice is still present.

Permethrin

This treatment for lice has a brand name of Acticin, Elimite, or Nix and it is available as a 5% Cream. Its route of administration is topical and the common adult dosage is to use enough solution to saturate hair and scalp; leave on for 10 minutes and then rinse with water; remove eggs (nits) with comb provided; apply second treatment in 7-10 days if needed

Pyrethrins & piperonyl butoxide

This treatment for lice has a brand name of A-200, Pronto, Rid, or Tegrin-LT and it is available as a 0.33%/4% Shampoo, or a 0.33%/4% Spray. Its route of administration is topical and the common adult dosage is to apply as directed
