Inequality and Class
The disparity in social and economic status among individuals and groups, leading to various consequences like poverty and discrimination.
Prejudice
Internal beliefs or attitudes held towards a group, often unfair and difficult to eliminate.
Stereotype
Oversimplified claims about a group of people, rooted in prejudice and leading to bias and discrimination.

Discrimination
Unequal treatment of different groups, putting them at a social disadvantage and reinforcing feelings of inferiority.
Class
combo of social and economic positioning (income, wealth, job, location, education)
Social Stratification
The categorization of individuals into different ranks within society based on factors like wealth, income, and education.

Structural Functionalism
A theory that views class as necessary for society, with different levels of jobs and wealth serving important functions.
Conflict Theory
Focuses on power differences leading to inequality, with the upper class perpetuating their advantage.

Emphasizes socialization and upbringing in shaping individuals' identities and perspectives on class.
Absolute poverty
economic condition where a family or individual cannot afford basic necessities
Global classification
compares wealth, status, power, etc. between countries of the world. Uses GDP which is calculated from people’s income or value of goods produced
Ethnicity
based on cultural traits that society deems important (culture)
Race
social construction, not biological but based on biological traits that society deemed important (looks)
Pluralism
all races and ethnicities have distinct and equal value and standing
Assimilation
characteristics of members of immigrant groups come to resemble one another
Immigration
The act of moving from one country to another, influenced by push and pull factors like economic opportunities and safety.
Generational Immigration
1st gen=you yourself moved. 2nd gen=parents are immigrants. 3rd gen=grandparents are immigrants
