• from Greek holokauston → meaning a burnt sacrifice offered whole to god. This word was chosen, and gained wide usage, because the Nazi’s burned the bodies of their victims

Anti-Semitism

• term given to political, social & economic agitation against Jews, hatred of Jews

• While Nazis were anti-smites → were the first group in history to be anti-semitist → longgg history of persecution against Jews

Going back in history

• in the Christian era → many blamed Jews for the cruxifiction of Christ → Jews were punished for killing Christ and not acception Christianity

→ eg: some ppl believed that Jews brought on the Black Death

→ there were also myths that they used blood of Christian children for ritual purposes → blood libel
