Contemporary Dance

It is a performing art that involves Rhythmic body

Movement within a given space, choreographed

based on a musical beat.

It is an expression of idea or emotion, releasing

energy or simply taking delight in the Music and

Dance movement itself.

Modern Dance

It was born before contemporary dance

and focuses mainly on the emotions of

dancers.

It is a broad genre of Western concert or

theatrical dance which includes dance styles

such as ballet, folk, ethnic, religious, and social

dance

Alice Reyes

Filipina dancer, choreographer, teacher, director

and producer.

She was chiefly responsible in popularizing

contemporary dance staged the first modern dance

concert at the Cultural Center of the Philippines

Main Theater in February 1970.

Liza Macuja

Filipino prima ballerina.

She is the Artistic Director and CEO of Ballet Manila and

was the Vice-Chairman of the Philippine UNESCO National

Commission.

She was also the Commissioner of the

National Commission on the Role of Filipino Women.

originated during the Italian

Renaissance in the fifteenth century

and later developed into a concert

dance form in France and Russia. It

has since become a widespread and

highly technical dance form with its

vocabulary.

Jazz

is a music genre that originated in the

African American communities of New

Orleans, Louisiana, in the late 19th and

early 20th centuries, with its roots in

blues, ragtime, European harmony, and

African rhythmic rituals.

Hip-Hop

Originated in America refers to street

dancing styles performed with hip-

hop music. It includes dance styles

such as breaking, locking, and

popping.

Ballroom Dancing

a partnership dance where couples, using step patterns, move rhythmically, expressing the characteristics of music

Dancers keep a close body contact hold at all times.
