Acculturation

Assimilation

Minority fully adopts dominant culture, losing original traits. Example: Early European immigrants in the U.S. eventually only spoke English

Factors that unify a country or group. Example: National holidays, shared language, or religion

Centrifugal Forces

Factors that divide a country or group. Example: Ethnic tensions in Yugoslavia

Creolization

Blending of languages and cultures to form a new one. Example: Haitian Creole combines French and African languages

Beliefs, customs, and social behavior of a group. Example: Japanese tea ceremonies
