Adverse events
Undesirable occurrences that happen at or near the time of a drug being taken.
Breakthrough drugs
Intended to treat a serious condition and may demonstrate significant endpoints over other therapies.
Dietary supplements
A category within FDA law that includes vitamins, minerals, and herbal remedies.
Effectiveness
An intervention that has been shown to increase positive outcomes or benefits in the population.
Efficacy
An intervention that increased positive outcomes and benefits in the population.
Food security
As defined by WHO, requires that people have access to sufficient, safe, and nutritious food to maintain a healthy active life.
Micronutrient
Vitamins and minerals that in small quantities are essential to good health.
Nutrition security
All Americans have consistent and equitable access to healthy, safe, affordable foods essential to optimal health and well-being.
Outbreaks
An increased number of a disease over a defined period of time, where affected individuals share a common characteristic.
Proof of concept
Suggestive evidence that the drug has efficacy.
Spontaneous reporting system
An FDA system for reporting adverse events when taking medication.
Surrogate endpoint
Use of substitute measures of outcomes that do not necessarily reflect the clinically important outcomes that a drug or other therapy intends to improve.
