Mental health
A state of mental well being that enables people to cope withthe stress of life, realize their abilities, learn well and work wells, and contribute to their community.
Physical health
The overall well being if an individual's body, encompassing factors such as fitness, nutrition, and the absence of illness or injury

General adaptation syndrome
Describes the physiologic changes your body goes through as it responds to stress
Problem focused coping
A stress management strategy in which a person's directly confronts a stressor in a attempt to decrease or eliminate it
Emotion focused coping
A technique in which an individual addresses the negative emotional reactions that are associated with a particular problem
Positive psychology
Focuses on making human existence more fulfilling rather than focusing on the treatment of mental illness

The brain's development of neurological pathways that influence performance or functioning skills
Schizophrenic spectrum disorders
A range of conditions that share symptoms with schizophrenia, such as disorganized thinking hallucinations, delusions, and social withdrawal
Depressive disorders
The most common mood disorders and is characterized by a depressed mood and physical symptoms such as loss of appetite and fatigue for 2 or more weeks in the absence of a clear cause.

A group of emotional and behavioral problems that may result from childhood traumatic and stressful experiences.

A mental health condition where you use the control of food to cope with feelings and other situations

Long term patterns of behavior and inner experiences that differ significantly from what is expected
Psychotherapy
An ongoing relationship between a patient and a therapist, in which the two discuss the patient's experiences and symptoms
Psychodynamic therapies
A form of depth psychology that focuses on the unconscious mind and past experiences to understand current behaviors
Cognitive behavioral therapies
A structured short term therapeutic technique that aims to change a client's maladaptive cognitions and behaviors into more realistic and/or adaptive ones.
Hypnosis
A social interaction in which one person suggests to another that certain perceptions, feelings, thoughts, or behaviors will spontaneously occur.
Psychoactive medications
Substances that can alter perception, mood, consciousness, cognition, or behavior by changing the brain's neurochemistry.
