Evaporation
A phase change from liquid to gas that happens only at the surface and can happen at many temperatures.
Boiling
A phase change from liquid to gas that happens throughout the liquid and starts at a specific boiling point.

Heating Graph Plateaus
Flat lines on a Temperature versus Time / energy added graph indicating that during melting and boiling, temperature stays flat because energy is used for the change of state instead of raising the temperature.
Ice Melting in a Drink
An everyday example of a transition from solid to liquid where the substance gains energy.
Drops on a Cold Glass
An everyday example of a transition from gas to liquid where the substance loses energy.
Water Freezing
An everyday example of a transition from liquid to solid where the substance loses energy.
Sweat Drying from Skin
An everyday example of a transition from liquid to gas where the substance gains energy.
Snow Melting in Sunlight
An everyday example of a transition from solid to liquid where the substance gains energy.
Physical Change Reminder
The rule that ice, liquid water, and water vapor are all still water, and matter is not created or destroyed during a change of state.
