Internal communication within oneself, such as thinking and making decisions.
Interpersonal Communication
Communication between two individuals, without the need for mass media.
Mass Communication
Communication from one or more sources to a wider audience that needs a medium or channel.
Encoding
The process of putting a message together.
Decoding
The process of unpackaging or understanding a message.
Yellow Journalism
A style of journalism focused on gossips, crime, scandals, and violence.
Digital Media
All forms of communication media like text, audio, video and graphics that are electronically transmitted over the internet or computer networks that are technologically based and interactive.
Digital Divide
The gap between those who have access to digital technology and those who do not.
Nickelodeon
Refers to the early movie theaters that charged a nickel for admission.
Block Booking
Practice where movie companies sign up theaters for a large number of movies at a time.
Ancillary Rights
Additional revenue streams for movies, such as subscription TV rights, airline rights, and DVD reproduction rights.

Any paid form of non-personal presentation and promotion of ideas, goods, or services by an identified sponsor.

Characteristics of an audience, such as age, gender, and income, used by advertisers to target their messages.

A profession that concerns creating understanding or a positive image toward an organization, company, person, or product.

The belief that media, especially TV, has a direct and uniform effect on audiences.
Two-Step Flow
The theory that information about politics from media is received directly through family and friends rather than mass media.
Media Stereotyping
The portrayal of ethnic and social groups in a certain way over time.
