Matter
Anything that has mass and takes up space
Physical Property
Any property of matter that can be observed or measured without altering a substance’s chemical composition
Chemical Property
Properties that describe how matter acts in the presence of other materials or how it changes composition under certain conditions
Intensive Physical Property
Do not depend on the amount of material present; Density, Malleability, Ductility, Conductivity, Color, Texture, State of matter, Shape, Odor, Taste
Density
The amount of matter in a unit volume (d=m/v)
Malleability
Materials that can be hammered into thin sheets or shapes
Ductility
Materials that can be drawn into long thin wiresC
Conductivity
Ability to transfer heat or electricity
Extensive Physical Property
Property that change depending on how much of the material is present; Mass, Volume, Length
Reactivity
Relates to how a substance responds to different substances or conditions
Flammability
Whether a substance will burn or notT
Toxicity
How much damage a substance will do to a particular organism
