what is the first step of glycogenolysis
the existing glycogen chain is phosphorylated by glycogen phosphorylase. It lyses a glycogen molecule and the phosphate group gets transferred to the carbon 1 of glucose G1P
what is the second step of glycogenolysis
G1P is converted to G6P by phosphoglucomutase and the phosphate moves from carbon 1 to carbon 6
what is the third step of glycogenolysis
it can be broken up into 2 steps depending on concentration and location of the molecule,
G6P can enter step 2 of glycolysis and make pyruvate or G6P can shed the phosphate and make glucose (via water and G6P) - only in liver
what is the 4th step of glycogenolysis
the glucose can be used anywhere in the body via transport outside the cell
