Corrsion
The breakdown of a metal as a result of chemical reactions with its environment
What are the benifits of corrsion
After it erodes the metal it could become stronger and then any further corrsion cannot happen
Rust
Allows for for more steel to be corroded
Flaky material
Does not stick to underlying steel
Causes of corrosion
Oxygen and water (for corrosion of iron)
Electrolytes (helps speed up the process of corrosion)
Ways of preventing corrosion
Protective coatings
corrosion resistant materials
Mindfulness of its enviroment
galvanized steel
coated with a thin layer of zinc.
Helps because the zinc corrodes before the iron. Which forms a protective oxide layer.
