Open Source Intelligence (OSINT)
Intelligence derived exclusively from publicly or commercially available information that addresses specific intelligence priorities, requirements, or gaps.
OSINT Mission
IC professionals collect, create, and deliver timely, relevant, and insightful open source intelligence to inform national security decisions and protect the Nation and its interests.
OSINT Vision
A professionalized, integrated, and agile IC OSINT enterprise providing decision advantage for U.S. policymakers and warfighters and driving innovation with partners.
Publicly Available Information (PAI)
A form of open source information that the IC aims to make more accessible to maximize its return on investment.
Commercially Available Information (CAI)
Data and information available through commercial sources which the IC tracks in a centralized, multi-domain data catalog.
OSINT Functional Manager (OSFM)
The Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (D/CIA), who oversees and guides open source activities across the IC.
Director of the Open Source Enterprise (D/OSE)
The official to whom the D/CIA delegates day-to-day functional management responsibilities for OSINT.
IC OSINT Executive
An official at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) who supports strategy implementation and ensures alignment between IC and Department of Defense open source activities.
Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI)
A technology that aids OSINT by summarizing large amounts of text and identifying themes, while requiring tradecraft to mitigate risks like inaccuracies and hallucinations.
CAI Framework
A framework implemented in accordance with DNI direction to track and manage Commercially Available Information.

HUMINT
Human Intelligence; its Functional Manager is designated as the D/CIA by Executive Order 12333.
GEOINT
Geospatial Intelligence; its Functional Manager is the Director of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency.
SIGINT
Signals Intelligence; its Functional Manager is the Director of the National Security Agency.
MASINT
Measurement and Signatures Intelligence; its Functional Manager is the Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency.
