INFINIUM Assay
A procedure used to process genotyping B chips, involving DNA amplification, hybridization, and scanning.
Amplification
The process of making multiple copies of DNA to increase the quantity for analysis.
Hybridization
The process where denatured DNA strands bind to complementary oligonucleotides attached to beads on an array.
Bead Chip
A microarray chip that contains oligonucleotides for genotyping purposes.
Oligonucleotides
Short sequences of nucleotides that are used in hybridization with DNA samples.
Centrifugation
A technique that uses centrifugal force to separate components of differing densities in a solution.
DNA Resuspension Buffer
A solution used to rehydrate and stabilize DNA samples for further processing.
Vortexing
A method of mixing samples rapidly using a vortex mixer.
Denaturation
The process of separating the two strands of DNA, usually through heat.
Precipitation
The process of separating DNA from a solution by adding a reagent that causes it to form a solid.
Flow Through Assembly
A setup used for placing bead chips during the hybridization and scanning process.
SNP (Single Nucleotide Polymorphism)
A variation at a single position in a DNA sequence among individuals.
Cluster Profile
A graphical representation of genotypes derived from SNP data that shows distinct clusters of data points.
Quality Control (QC)
Procedures to ensure that the intensity of signals is adequate for reliable genotyping results.
Genome Studio
Software used for analyzing genotyping data and generating cluster profiles.
Fluorescence
Emission of light by a substance that has absorbed light or other electromagnetic radiation.
