Leadership
The process of guiding followers in a certain direction in pursuit of a vision, mission, or goals, and the ability to provide direction to a group of people and influence them to follow that direction and act accordingly.
Leadership (Hollander, 1978)
A process of influence between a leader and those who are followers.
Leadership (Gary Yuki, 2006)
The process of influencing others to understand and agree about what needs to be done and how to do it, and the process of facilitating individual and collective efforts to accomplish shared objectives.
Leadership (Peter Northouse, 2010)
A process whereby an individual influences a group of individuals to achieve a common goal.
Process (Leadership Component)
A continuous cycle of planning, communicating, influencing, and evaluating, such as setting direction, motivating people, monitoring progress, and giving feedback.
Group (Leadership Component)
The people who are led or influenced by the leader, such as team members, employees, students, or community members.
Shared Goals (Leadership Component)
Objectives accepted and supported by both the leader and the group, such as providing quality service that benefits the community.
Goal (Leadership Component)
The desired result or outcome that the leader and the group want to achieve, such as increasing sales by 20% within the year.
Influence (Leadership Component)
The ability of the leader to affect the thoughts, attitude, and actions of others through communication, trust, recognition, and setting a good example.
