1753-French Troops March to Seize the Ohio Valley
French: Ohio Valley is essential to Trade, Trade=Money
British: Ohio Valley is land and land=opportunity
Natives: Lean with French bc of their trade (metal guns, rum, tools)
1754 (May)-French and Indian War Begins
French: Jumonville was killed.
British: Thrown off that Jumonville was killed.
Natives: Admit to killing Jumonville bc France broke their land agreement.
1754(July)-Battle of Fort Necessity
French: Victorious because of the Native’s guerilla-style warfare.
British: Embarrassed and betrayed by the guerilla-style warfare. Washington signs a document in French that admits surrender and killing Jumonville.
Native: Admit to helping the French and distance themselves from the British.
1755 (July)-Braddock defeated at Battle of Monongahela
French: Defeat the British bc of guerilla-style warfare
British: Braddock and the British are morally wounded due to their hate for the Natives. Braddock forbids his troops from using this warfare and ends up dead.
Native: Aware of their influence, and get posts from the French
1755 (September)-Stalemate (tie) at Fort William Henry
French: They realize if the British get Native help the conflict is going to be very long.
British: Ally with the Mohawks, but their Chief is killed. They see how vital the Native support is.
Native: Mohawks step away from the British bc they don’t want to lose more lives.
1756
Great Britain declares war on France, expanding the conflict globally
1757-French Capture Fort William Henry, British massacred
French: Surround the British and let them surrender or fight. They feel they’re being blamed for the massacre the Natives caused.
British: Chose to surrender and are later ambushed and massacred by the Natives. They think the French set it up.
Natives: they directly sat they killed them bc they didn’t like the terms of surrender
1758-Pitt changes colonial policy
Colonists: 100% are British subjects, but Britain is making them feel inferior.
1758-British capture Fort Louisbourg, tide shifts
French: They aren’t worried about losing, but they lost the last ship they has in North America
British: They’re excited about their first major victory
Colonists: They feel responsible for the victory.
1758-French lose Fort Frontenac, supplies in jeopardy
French: worried bc they lost all their supplies
British: Feel they have a fighting chance
Colonists: They want to be credited for the win.
1758- Treaty of Easton signed
French: Feeling the weight of certain defeat
British: Create a pack with six other native nations
Native: They don’t wanna leave east of the Alleghenies, but they do and settle west because disease is so rampant.
Colonists: Angry at the British bc they wanted to settle west.
1758-British take Fort Duquesne
French: abandon and burn Fort Duquesne so the British can’t use it.
British: Taken control of the fork of Ohio and establish Fort Pitt
Native: They want peace and for the conflict to end1759-
1759- French lose Fort Niagara
French: Feel helpless and are begging for supplies, but they don’t have any
British: Confident they have the win
Native: They have to stay with the British bc there’s no turning back
1759- French surrender Quebec, Montcalm died
French: They can’t believe there was an attack using gueriila-style warfare
British: They feel they’ve won
Native: Hope this is the end
1760- British win Canada, war in North America ends
French: Fold their flag and surrender
British: Victorious, relieved, and ecstatic
Native: Feel relived, but anxious about moving west.
1763- Seven Years’ War ends, Britain victorious
French: Lost almost everything and gave up their land in North America
British: They've won, but they’re broke bc war is expensive.
1763- Pontiac’s War begins
British: Fighting the Natives
Natives: Chief Pontiac doesn’t want to leave, so he attacks the British
Colonists: Happy that the Treaty of Easton was broke so they can settle West.
1763- Natives defeated at Battle of Bushy Run
British: They purposefully trade blankets infected with smallpox to the Natives
Natives: Many Natives died, contributing to the defeat
1763- Proclamation of 1763 enacted
British: King George III signs another Treaty of Easton so the war can be over.
Natives: Don’t wanna fight, and don’t wanna leave. They leave to survive.
Colonists: Infuriated with the crown bc they just want to settle West.
1764- American colonies taxes
British: They won a war and got a bunch of land, but they’re poor. British subjects are already paying a sugar tax
Colonists: They have no problem paying the sugar tax, but they’re mad they weren’t allowed to vote on it
1765- Pontiac’s war ends
British: They change their trade policy and will provide the Natives the items they want if they move West of the Alleghenies
Natives: This is the best option for them as disease is very rampant.
Colonists: They’re still upset with Britain bc the Natives have weapons to defend themselves from the colonists taking it.
