Stage
The platform on which the slide rests for viewing.
Iris diaphragm lever
The microscope component used to regulate or adjust the amount of light passing through the specimen.
Mechanical stage
The component that controls the movement of the slide on the stage.
Condenser
The microscope structure that delivers a concentrated beam of light to the specimen.
Fine adjustment knob
The control knob used for precise focusing to bring an object in rough focus into sharp focus.
Nosepiece
The rotating part of the microscope that carries the objective lenses so different objective lenses can be brought into position over the specimen.
Ocular lens
The eyepiece lens of the microscope, which has a magnification of 10x.
Scanning objective lens
An objective lens that has a magnification of 4x.
Coarse adjustment knob
The control knob used to bring a specimen into rough focus, typically used with lower power objectives like the 4x objective.
Depth of field
The thickness of the plane that is clearly in focus; it is greater at lower magnifications and decreases as magnification increases.
Contrast
One of the three factors affecting image quality, which is altered by the light source and iris diaphragm lever.
Red blood cells
Cells whose structure enables them to transport oxygen and carbon dioxide.
White blood cells
Cells whose structure enables them to be involved in immunity.

Proper Microscope Transport Technique
Depicted in Picture A, where one hand firmly holds the arm and the other hand supports the base while keeping the microscope upright.
