What do extremophiles mean?
Organisms that live in environments that are very extreme where most other organisms couldn’t survive.
Where can extremophiles live?
Areas with: very high or low temperatures, extreme pressures, high salt concentrations, highly acidic or alkaline conditions, low levels of oxygen or water.
Name an example of an extremophile:
Bacteria that live in deep sea vents
How are deep sea vents formed?
When seawater circulates through hot volcanic rocks on the seafloor.
What do deep sea vents have?
Very high pressures and temperatures, no sunlight, are strongly acidic.
