what is runway styling?

happens 2x year; Feb&Sept. can do different things: 1. can be the stylist that works w/ designer to help them create the look for the show, get accessories, and shoes, create the order, like what flows best to create the run of show. 2. can be a stylist that has a team that helps dress models for the show. following the stylist notes in order to execute the looks for the show.

optimizing the way products are displayed to make them visually appealing and desirable. need to style things for people to want to even engage with it not even purchased. a lot of it goes into props, color palettes, items that are framed around it, inside it. before capturing pic/video, you style it multiple times and we restyle it. think about light balance. does it look better off-center? does it look better in the actual frame? could this be cropped if needed? constant fast paced

2 different types, one who actually has a culinary background and one who just knows tips and tricks. sometimes they know both. can be food styling thats a prep stylist for tv shows. can also be one for magazines and editorials and commercials

don’t staple your look on every single person. finding that happy medium between what mood board that we need to execute/deliver but at the same time being able to translate that on someone that is open to wearing makeup, to someone that does not want to wear any

every time you go to a shoot it is a new opportunity to meet a new person to make new relationships for anything. (ex; meeting MUA wants to work w/ you more, then later something comes up, small budget, need favor and you can call up those people and its a mutual thing

being able to work with little to know budget, garment bags, carrying a lot of stuff, being able to stretch everything you can. also having to be really scrappy and persistant but not annoying,

what is an ideal assistant?

someone who is rested, willing, and able to work that day. one who can follow directions, problem solve but also know your place. Never over speak the person that you are assisting. if you have an idea to make something work pull assistant to the side in private area and speak to them about what you know, saw heard etc.

make phone calls to set up appointments, possible write emails for them. they will probably show you what they would want you to say or how they would want you to craft the email.

for resume’s if you have experience

its not about per job, start date or end date like traditional resume. if you have worked with only 1 stylist but have worked with them a lot you would want to break down the 3-4 jobs that you’ve worked with said stylist and make them 3 or 4 different jobs

its a list of photographers, ad agencies, celebrities, editorials, etc

pertinent info on where to go, what time to be there, who will all the players that will be there and their contact info, what car service, who models are, what the talent agencies are. even if you’re an assistant your name will be on the call sheet
