What is melting point?
The temperature at which a solid turns into a liquid.
What is boiling point?
The temperature at which a liquid turns into a gas.
What happens to a material when it melts?
It changes from a solid to a liquid.
What happens when things burn?
New materials are made.
What are examples of new materials that are made through burning?
Ash and charred wood or invisible gases such as carbon dioxide and water vapor.
What is a chemical change?
A change where materials are changed into different types of material, making new substances and is an irreversible change.
What are examples of physical changes?
Melting and evaporating.
When does a chemical change always occur?
Burning always causes it; Heating can cause it, but sometimes adding heat just causes a physical change such as melting.
Give examples of chemical changes.
Examples include rusting and cooking.
What is the difference between melting point and boiling point?
Melting point is the temperature at which something becomes a liquid; boiling point is the temperature at which something becomes a gas.
Is burning an example of physical or chemical change?
It is an irreversible change.
What is a physical property of metals?
They have very high melting and boiling points.
