What is a risk factor?
A risk factor is something that increases the likelihood of developing a disease.
Name two risk factors for cardiovascular disease.
Smoking and lack of exercise.
Why can't scientists prove that lack of exercise causes cardiovascular disease?
Because correlation does not equal causation—other factors may be involved, and it's difficult to isolate exercise as the sole cause.
What is a non-communicable disease?
A disease that cannot be spread from person to person.
Give two examples of non-communicable diseases.
Cardiovascular disease and Type 2 diabetes.
Why can lifestyle factors affect health?
Because they influence how the body functions and its ability to resist disease.
Why can lifestyle factors affect the risk of developing non-communicable diseases?
They can contribute to conditions like obesity, high blood pressure, or poor lung function, which increase disease risk.
