Silas Marner
Silas Marner was a humble weaver who lived in Revloes in England, where he spent his early life in a religious order called Lantern Yard, but he was accused of stealing money and murder, so he the town to go to Revloes. He had gold hidden under the floor brick near his loam until his gold was stolen by someone (Dustan), and then he had to take care of the child who was lifted in the snow. |
Godfrey Cass
Godfrey Cass was a good-natured young man, but weak-willed and usually unable to think of much beyond his immediate material comfort. He is the eldest son of Squire Cass and the heir to the Cass estate, he married opium addict Molly Farren and had a kid together named Eppie. Also, he is secretly in love with Nancy Lammeter and wants to marry her instead of Molly Farren.
Dunstan Cass
Dustan Cass, evil brother of Godfrey, who was vain, arrogant, selfish as well as dishonest. He suspect his own worthlessness on thinking what a fine person he is, his fear the opinions of other on that subject, and gets ready to do or say anything to get what he wants. |
Nancy Lammeter
Nancy Lammeter is pretty, caring and stubborn young lady whom Godfrey prususes and marry her instead of Molly Farren. She comes from a family that is wealthy by Reaveloe standards. |
Molly Farren
Molly Farren was he first Godfrey’s first, secret wife and the mother of Eppie. Molly is from a lower class famil background than Godfrey and she is addicted to opium, which hse use that drug to blame her problems on her husband’s neglect, during when she was heading over to the New Year’s Party. Which suddenly she recognizes her responsibility for the control opium has over her life and put her to death(leave the baby alone in the snow).
Eppie
Eppie is a girl whom Silas Manner eventually adopted her. She is the biological child of Godfrey Cass and Molly Farren and she has a pretty, spirited and loves Silas unquestioningly.
Dolly Winthrop
Dolly Winthrop was overflowing with kindness and local wisdom, she admits to how little she knows, and how little any human can know divine plans for all people. She is selfless with her time and energy in helping others.
Squire Cass
The wealthiest man in Raveloe. He is lazy, self-satisfied, and short-tempered.
William Dane
Silas's proud and priggish best friend from his childhood in Lantern Yard. He frames Silas for theft in order to bring disgrace upon him, then marries Silas's fiancée, Sarah.
Mr. Macey
Raveloe's parish clerk. He is opinionated and smug but means well.
Aaron Winthrop
Dolly's son and Eppie's eventual husband.
Priscilla Lammeter
Nancy's homely and plainspoken sister. She talks endlessly but is extremely competent at everything she does.
Sarah
Silas's fiancée in Lantern Yard. She is put off by Silas's strange fit and ends up marrying William Dane after Silas is disgraced.
Mr. Lammeter
Nancy's and Priscilla's father. He is a proud and morally uncompromising man.
Jem Rodney
A somewhat disreputable character and a poacher. He sees Silas in the midst of one of Silas's fits. Silas later accuses him of stealing his gold.
Mr. Kimble
Godfrey's uncle and Raveloe's doctor. He is usually an animated conversationalist and joker, but becomes irritable when he plays cards. He has no medical degree and inherited the position of village physician from his father.
Mr. Dowlas
The town farrier, who shoes horses and tends to general livestock diseases. He is a fiercely contrarian person, much taken with his own opinions.
Mr. Snell
The landlord of the Rainbow, a local tavern. By nature a conciliatory person, he always tries to settle arguments.
the peddler
An anonymous person who comes through Raveloe some time before the theft of Silas's gold. He is a suspect in the theft because of his gypsylike appearance—and for lack of a better candidate.
Bryce
A friend of both Godfrey and Dunsey. He arranges to buy Wildfire, Dunsey's horse.
Miss Gunns
Sisters from a larger nearby town who come to the Squire's New Year's dance. They are disdainful of Raveloe's rustic ways, but are nonetheless impressed by Nancy Lammeter's beauty.
Sally Oates
Silas's neighbor and the wheelwright's wife. Silas eases the pain of her heart disease and dropsy with a concoction he makes out of foxglove.
