Dialysis

A process in which a semipermeable membrane is used to separate and remove certain molecules from a solution, based on their size and charge.

Biuret reagent

A chemical solution used to test for the presence of peptide bonds in a solution, indicated by a color change.

Semipermeable membrane

A membrane that allows the passage of certain molecules while restricting others based on their size and charge.

Diffusion

The movement of molecules from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration.

Hydrolysis

A chemical reaction in which a compound is broken down into smaller molecules by reacting with water.

Iodine

A chemical reagent used to detect the presence of starch molecules, indicated by a color change.

Lowering surface tension

The process of reducing the attraction between water molecules, allowing them to spread out and separate.

Surfactant

A substance that lowers surface tension by reducing the attraction between water molecules, often used in soaps and detergents.
