Eukaryotic cells
Examples: Plant and animal cells
They have a cell membrane, cytoplasm, and genetic material enclosed in a nucleus.
Prokaryotic cells
Bacterial cells. Much smaller than eukaryotic cells. Genetic material is not in a nucleus.
Bacterial structure
Cytoplasm, cell membrane and cell wall. Genetic material is a single DNA loop; may contain plasmids.
Scale
Use units such as mm, um and nm, standard form, and order of magnitude comparisons.
Animal cells
Nucleus, cytoplasm, cell membrane, mitochondria and
ribosomes.
Plant cells
Animal cell structures AND chloroplasts, permanent vacuole and cellulose cell wall.
Algal cells
Have plant-like structures including a cell wall and chloroplasts.
