Name the three muscles that control outflow of urine and their NS control
Detrusor - ANS
Int urethral sphincter - ANS
Ext urethral sphincter - Somatic NS
What division of ANS causes detrusor contraction?
Parasympathetic
What division of the ANS causes contraction of int urethral sphincter?
Sympathetic
What is the sympathetic NS overall effect on the bladder?
Allows filling / holds urine!
relaxes detrusor to allow filling
contracts internal sphincter
What receptors are on detrusor and int sphincter?
Both sympathetic
detrusor = b-2 receptors
inn sphincter = a-1 receptors
What receptors are on the external sphincter?
Somatic NS so = nicotinic ACH receptors
What is the effect of the para sympatheitc NS on the bladder?
Cintraction of detrusor muscle via Muscarinic ACH receptors.
What nerve carries sympathetic motor to bladder?
Hypogstric nerve
arises from L1-L2
What nerve carries parasympathetic motor to the bladder?
pelvic nerve
arises from S1-S2
What nerve carries somatic motor to the bladder?
Pudendal nerve
S1-S2
