Wood Framing
Used since early settlers who used abundant forest resources available. It is a piece of sophisticated tech. which is supported by research and is capable of overcoming all building science challenges.
Advantages of Wood Framing
Fast and easy to build and renovate;
Durable
Strong, light and flexible using basic fasteners
Adaptable to all climates from humid to extreme cold.
Able to meet or exceed code-established levels of fire safety and sound control.
Live Load
Occupancy load. People, snow, appliances. Anything that can be altered after placing
Dead Load
Structure Weight. Walls, Ceilings. Cannot be altered after placing
Wall Framing includes
studs, wood/metal. Wall plates and lintels that resist lateral loads and vertical loads from the upper floors, ceiling, and roof.
Wall Framing - External
Stud spacing is 12-24” depending on the load.
Studs can be 2×6” or 2×4”.
External walls is 12 in and above
Wall Framing - Internal
Framing method uses the same components and techniques as exterior wall frame.
Does not use insulation(most commonly) , hence the less thickness.
Uses drywall on both sides.
Load Bearing Wall
Usually a cavity or external wall is known as load bearing.
It transfers the load about to the ground.
Damaging this wall will damage the structural capability
