GnRH
Gonadotropin-releasing hormone from the hypothalamus that stimulates the pituitary to secrete FSH and LH.
Pituitary
Endocrine gland that releases FSH and LH in response to GnRH.
FSH
Follicle-stimulating hormone; promotes ovarian follicle development and estrogen production.
LH
Luteinizing hormone; triggers ovulation and stimulates progesterone production after ovulation.
Ovaries
Gonads that release eggs (ova) and secrete estrogen and progesterone.
Menopause
Cessation of menstruation typically around ages 45–55; commonly accompanied by hot flashes, mood changes, and vaginal dryness.
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)
Common endocrine disorder in reproductive-age women characterized by irregular menses, polycystic ovaries, and hyperandrogenism.
Hot flashes
Sudden feelings of warmth, often with sweating, that occur during menopause.
Mood changes
Fluctuations in mood commonly reported during menopause.
Vaginal dryness
Decreased vaginal lubrication often seen with menopause.
Abdominal bloating
Vague abdominal distension that can be reported in PCOS or related conditions.
Incontinence
Involuntary leakage of urine.
Urgency
A sudden, compelling urge to urinate.
Retention
Inability to completely empty the bladder.
Obstruction
Blockage that can impede urine flow and contribute to retention.
