Law of Multiple Proportions
When two elements form two or more compounds, the masses of one element that combines with a fixed mass of the other element does so in a whole number ratio.
Law of Reciprocal Proportion
The masses/weights of two elements that combine with a fixed mass of a third element are in a whole number ratio.
Equivalent
A unit of amount, similar to 'mol'.
Number of Equivalents
The number of moles of a substance multiplied by its n-factor.
n-factor
A factor that depends on the substance and the reaction it undergoes (e.g., acidity, basicity, redox change).
E
The equivalent weight of a substance.
Normality (N)
The number of gram equivalents of solute per liter of solution (Eq/L).
Molarity (M)
Moles of solute per liter of solution (mol/L).
Mole Fraction
The ratio of moles of a component to the total moles in a solution.
