Federal Government
The level of government led by the Prime Minister, responsible for national defence, immigration and citizenship, criminal law, currency and banking, foreign affairs, employment insurance, the postal service, Indigenous affairs, and airports and interprovincial trade.
Provincial Government
The level of government led by the Premier, responsible for education, healthcare (including OHIP), highways, natural resources like forestry and mining, property and civil rights, provincial courts, social services, and driver's licenses.
Municipal Government
The level of government led by the Mayor, responsible for garbage and recycling collection, local roads and snow removal, public transit, water and sewage systems, public libraries, the fire department, local parks and recreation, and parking and local by-laws.
Prime Minister
The leader of the federal government.
Premier
The leader of the provincial government.
Mayor
The leader of the municipal government.
Shared Responsibilities
Governmental areas shared between the federal and provincial levels, including the environment, agriculture, and immigration.
