Temporalis Muscle
Elevates mandible; attaches to frontal, parietal, temporal, and coronoid process of mandible.
Masseter Muscle
Elevates mandible; attaches to mandible (gonial angle, masseteric tuberosity, ramus) and zygomatic arch (zygomatic, temporal).
Buccinator Muscle
The cheek muscle; sits in the extramolar sulcus of the mandible.
Middle Meningeal Arteries
Supply blood to dura mater; pass through foramen spinous of the sphenoid; form middle meningeal grooves on frontal and parietals.
Falx Cerebri
A fold of the dura mater that separates the left and right hemispheres of the brain; attaches to the frontal crest of the frontal. the crista galli of the ethmoid, and the internal occipital protuberance of the occipital.
Superior Sagittal Sinus
Part of the venous drainage system of the cranium; lodged in the sagittal sulcus of the frontal, parietals, and occipital.
Transverse Sinus
Part of the venous drainage system of the cranium; lodged in the transverse sulcus of the occipital and parietal.
Sigmoid Sinus
Part of the venous drainage system of the cranium; lodged in the sigmoid sulcus of the temporal.
Bulb of Internal Jugular Vein
Drains blood from head; sits in jugular fossa of the temporal.
Internal Carotid Artery
Major source of blood for the head; enters cranium via the carotid canal of the temporal.
Brainstem
Passes through the foramen magnum of the occipital.
Nasolacrimal Duct
Drains tears into the nasal cavity; runs in lacrimal canal formed by maxilla and lacrimal.
Pituitary Gland
Manufactures growth hormones; sits in sella turcica of the sphenoid.
