Amenorrhea (primary)
Delayed absence of a period — can be related to anorexia, malnutrition, runners, and obesity
Amenorrhea (secondary)
Sudden absence of a period — can be caused by pregnancy, hormonal disruptions, IUD, endocrine disorders, and stress
Dysmenorrhea (primary)
Painful periods associated with ovulatory cycle (adjusting to hormonal fluctuations). Treatment may include heat, NSAIDs, nutrition, hydration, exercise, and OCPs
Dysmenorrhea (secondary)
Painful period associated with disorder/underlying cause (ex. ovarian cyst). Treatment is to treat disorder.
