Epithelial tissue
Consists of one or more layers of closely-packed cells, providing the lining of organs and cavities.
Gland
A collection of epithelial cells that produce a secretion.
Exocrine glands
Glands that secrete substances into ducts leading to external surfaces.
Endocrine glands
Glands that secrete hormones directly into the bloodstream.
Connective tissue
Characterized by cells scattered in a non-cellular matrix, including several types like proper, cartilage, bone, and blood.
Simple Squamous Epithelium
A thin layer of tissue allowing transport across it, found lining various organs.
Hyaline Cartilage
Provides structural support, flexibility for volume changes, and reduces friction at joints.
Adipose Tissue
Stores fat, prevents heat and water loss, acting as a buffer against mechanical trauma.
Stratified Squamous Epithelium
Protects against mechanical trauma and water loss, found in areas subject to abrasion.
Transitional Epithelium
Allows for stretching and recoil, found lining organs like the bladder.
