Applied Magnetic Field
Initial magnetic field applied to a sample (B0)
Local Magnetic Field
Caused by the shielding electrons around nuclei and directly opposes the applied magnetic field
Effective Magnetic Field
The net magnetic field experienced by nuclei in a sample, found by subtracting the local magnetic field from the applied magnetic field
Enantiopic Hydrogens
Two hydrogens that are attached to a carbon that is also bonded to two distinct groups in a molecule without a chiral center
Prochiral Carbons
The carbon to which enantiopic hydrogens are attached
Diasteriopic Hydrogens
Hydrogens that are attached to a carbon that is also bonded to two distinct groups within a molecule that has a chiral center
Chemical Shift
A measure of how far the test signal is from a reference signal on an NMR
