Criteria for Canonization

The three standard criteria used to determine biblical canon: apostolic in origin, recognized by the churches, and teaches sound doctrine.

Genres of the Bible

The five main literary types in Scripture: Law, Historical Narrative, Wisdom / Poetry, Prophecy, and Epistle Literature.

Areas of Context

The five areas necessary for biblical context: Historically, Culturally, Geographically, Lexically, and Canonically.

Septuagint

The first translation of the Hebrew Bible into Greek.

Hellenization

The cultural movement that brought about the need for a Greek translation of the Hebrew Bible.

Vulgate

The first translation of the complete Bible in Latin.

Martin Luther

The individual credited with writing the first German translation of the Bible.

William Coverdale

The figure credited with writing the first complete English translation of the Bible.

Geneva

The English Bible translation that made it on the Mayflower.

Natural Attributes of God

God's natural attributes: Omnipresent, Omnipotent, Omniscient, Omnibenevolent, Transcendent, Immanent, Eternal, and Immutable.

Identity of God

The personal aspects of God's identity, comprising Intellect, Feelings, and Will.

Holiness

The sum total of God's perfection.

Deity of Jesus Christ

Proved by His power over nature, turning water into wine, and power over physical disease, demons, and death.

Reasons for Christ's Perfect Life

1.) Qualified Him as the spotless lamb offering for sin. 2.) Rendered perfect obedience to God contrasting Adam's disobedience (Romans 5:19, Hebrews 10:6-7). 3.) Qualified Him as Mediator and High Priest (Hebrews 2:11-18).

Evidences of the Resurrection

Facts including: persuaded disciples against their better judgment, 10 appearances in 10 places (once to 500 people), disciples would be deceivers if stolen, inability of enemies to produce His body, the empty tomb, and transformed lives today.

Protoevangelium

Meaning "the first gospel," found in Scripture at Genesis 3:15.

Atonement

Literal meaning "At-one-ment," which is secured by sacrifice and blood.

Passover

The fullest picture of Christ's sacrifice.

Animal Sacrifices

Old Testament offerings that provided a "covering" for sin until the death of Christ forever destroyed sin's power.
