Stress
A response which consists of tension, discomfort or physical symptoms that arise when a situation overwhelms our ability to cope effectively.
Stressor
Events which represent a threat to our typical psychological functioning.
Appraisal
Cognitive evaluation and the interpretation of the stressor.
Stress Response
Cognitive, emotional and biological reactions.
Primary Appraisal
Person decides whether a situation is benign, stressful or irrelevant.
Secondary Apprasial
Person evaluates options and decides how to respond.
Burnout
A state of vital exhaustion.
Anticipatory Stress
I.e. worry or “what-if-ism.”
Retrospective Stress
rumination, thinking about things that have already happened and generally we skew them.
