Stress reduction protocol steps

1. Recognize

2. Possible sedation prior to and during therapy

7. Adequate pain control

8. Short appointments when possible

9. Adequate post op pain/anxiety control

ASA level 1

healthy patient w/o systemic disease

ASA level 2

patient with mild systemic disease

ASA level 3

patient with severe systemic disease that limits activity but NOT incapacitaiton

ASA level 4

patient with incapacitating systemic disease is constant threat, dont see these patients in clinic

ASA level 5

patient not expected to survive 24 hrs with or without operation

What can cause a falsely high BP reading

• cuff too small.narrow, unsupported arm, cold equitement or operator hands

• deflating cuff to slowly = high diastolic

What can cause falsely low BP readings

• too large/wide of cuff

  • inaccurate inflation of the cuff/loose = low systolic

Conditions requiring DSUDH clinic medical consult

used to determine if pre-med required

• suspicion of undiagnosed condition

• abnormal vital signs

• patient has received radiation therapy in past 6 months

• patient has taken carbamazepine/tegretol
