Reincarnation
The process by which one's soul (atman) is reborn after death. Moving either up or down the caste system, as a result of the karma they accumulated over their life.
Karma
The universal principle of cause and effect where intentional actions determine one's destiny, with every action creating ripples that shape present experiences and future reincarnations. Links to the Samsara cycle.
Moksha
The ultimate spiritual goal in Hinduism, representing the liberation of the soul (atman) from the endless cycle of death, rebirth and suffering (samsara). It is achieved by the good karma and resulting in eternal peace and unity with the Supreme Being.
Samsara
The continuous cycle of birth, life, death and rebirth (reincarnation). It is intrinsically tied to suffering.
Karmic consequences
By not following principles of ahimsa and dharma there are negative cosmic consequences to ones actions and will result
Atman
The eternal unchanging inner self that is ultimately identical with Brahman.
Dharma
The ethical and moral responsibilities required to maintain order and harmony, shaped by stage of life.
Caste System
An ancient social structure that divides society into hierarchical groups based on birth, purity, and occupation. Determines a Hindu's role in society
