What does NIMS stand for?
National Incident Management System
What does the incident commander do?
In charge of the overall incident
What is the unified command system?
Large MCIs, such as a hazmat
What is a single command system?
One person is in charge, even if multiple agencies respond
What is the logistics section of the IC responsible for?
Responsible for communications equipment, facilities, food and water, fuel, lighting, and medical equipment and supplies
What is the operations section responsible for in IC?
Manages tactical operations usually handled by the IC on routine EMS calls
What is the planning section of the IC?
Obtain data about the problem, analyze the previous incident plan, and predict what or who is needed to make the new plan work
What does the liaison officer do?
Relays information and concerns among command, the general staff, and other agencies
What is an open incident?
One that is not yet contained
What is the rehabilitation supervisor do?
Establishes an area that provides protection for responders from the elements and the situation
What does IDME stand for?
Used for triage
Immediate (red)
Delayed (yellow)
Minor or minimal (green; hold)
Expectant (black; likely to die or dead)
What do patients’ that would be considered immediate (red-tag) usually have problems with?
Problems with ABCs, head trauma, or signs and symptoms of shock
What do patients’ that would be considered Delayed (yellow-tag) usually have problems with?
Multiple injuries to bones or joints, including back injuries with or without spinal cord injury
What do patients’ that would be considered green-tag usually have problems with?
Minor fractures, minor soft-tissue injuries
What do patients’ that would be considered Black-tag usually have problems with?
Obvious death, obviously nonsurvivable injury, such as major open brain trauma
Respiratory arrest (if limited resources)
