Physical Development (2-7)
lose baby fat, grow taller and leaner, continue to develop large muscle control, develop small muscle control, brail lateralization becomes concrete
Social + Emotional Development (2-7)
goes from solitary to parallel to cooperative play. develops relationships with children their age/gender. plays family. is more and more creative with make-believe play
Language (Age 2)
points to things or pictures when they are named. knows names of familiar people and body parts. says sentences with 2-4 words. follows simple instructions. repeats words overheard in conversation
Language (Age 7)
speaks very clearly, tells simple stories using full sentences. uses future tense. says name and address
Initiative vs Guilt
(3-5) Children develop a sense of initiative and feel secure in their ability to lead others and make decisions. if this tendency is criticized or controlled, children develop a sense of guilt.
Industry vs Inferiority
(5-12) feel competent and confident in their ability to achieve goals. if this is not encouraged, child doubts his own abilities and may not reach their full potential
Physical Development (7-11)
continue to grow taller and stronger, brain growth spurt around 9, fine tune gross and small motor skills
Social Development (7-11)
enter period with close ties to parents. relationships with peers become more important and last longer. most friendships are between the same genders.
Language (7-11)
use language to predict and draw conclusions. use long and complex sentences. understand other points of view and show that they agree or disagree. understand comparative words. keep conversations going by giving reasons and explaining choices.
