Low Blood Oxygen Cycle ( Long Term)

Low blood oxygen is detected by the Kidneys & Liver

The protein HIF (Hypoxia- inducible factor ) stimulates the Kidneys & Liver to produce the hormone Erythropoietin (EPO) into the bloodstream

EPO travels through the bloodstream to the Red Bone Marrow

Which then stimulates the increased production of RBC

Increased amounts of RBC mean O2 (oxygen) carrying abilities is increased

Oxygen levels return to normal

Kidneys detect that, and stop producing extra EPO
