Titanic

Titans were lawless, powerful giants that once ruled earth. Cronus was the leader but got overthrown by Zeus.

Arachnid

Greek; Arachne was a mortal weaver and she challenged Athena. Athena turned her into a spider.

Definition: any wingless, eight-legged animal

Martial

Rome ; Of Mars, or warlike pertaining to Mars, the Roman god of war. The connection to Mars shows strength, combat, and valor. In Greek, Mars is Ares.

Definition - relating to, or suited for war or a warrior

Odyssey

Greek; comes from the Ancient Greek title Odýsseia, meaning “the story of Odysseus”. This title is built from the name of the Greek hero Odysseus, whose ten-year journey home after the Trojan War is told in Homer’s epic poem, the Odyssey. 

Definition - a long eventful and wandering journey filled with adventures and hardships, or a spiritual and psychological quest for a goal

Panic

Greek; Pan was a Greek god of nature, shepherds and the wild. He would frighten people with his cries, which is where the word “panic” comes from.

Definition - A sudden, overwhelming feeling of extreme fear or anxiety that stops clear thinking and often leads to wild, irrational actions.

Jovial

Roman; “of or relating to Jove” (Roman = Jupiter/Greek = Zeus) astrology taught that people born under this planet’s sign were happy and good humored

Definition - The doc didn’t have a definition

Lethargic

Greek; This traces back to the word lethe which means “forgetfulness” or the mythological river, Lethe. If you drank from it it would cause forgetfulness

Definition - A state of feeling sluggish, drowsy, or lacking energy and enthusiasm.

Chronology

Greek; Chronology came from Chronus who was time itself.

Definition - the arrangement of events in the order in which they happened, from first to last.

Ambrosial

Greek; Ambrosia was a heavenly honey tasting food worthy of the gods. Mortals who ate it were immortal.

Definition - Especially delicious or fragrant; worthy of gods; divine

Labyrinthine

Greek; from Labyrinth, a maze in Crete built by Daedalus to hold the Minotaur.

Definition - Made up of many twists and turns, or very hard to understand because it’s too complex.

Accept/except

Accept - Something is true

Except - To leave something out or exclude it

Trick- A in accept stands for agree while EX in except stands for exclude

Allusion/Illusion

Allusion - an indirect reference to a famous person, place, or event

Illusion - A false image or trick of the mind

Allusion = Authors hint

Illusion = Impossibility/trick

Complement/compliment

Complement - Means to complete or improve something else

Compliment - To say something positive about something or someone

Trick = If one thing complements another, it completes that thing
