Bacterial Skin Infection Routes
Invasions arising from external organisms through breaks in the skin or from organisms reaching the skin via blood as part of systemic disease (bacteremia and septicemia).
Bacterial Skin Infections
Infections of the skin including Impetigo, Cellulitis, Erysipelas, and Folliculitis.
Viral Skin Infections
Skin manifestations caused by viruses, including Herpes zoster, warts, Molluscum contagiosum, Measles, and Rubella.
Fungal Skin Infections
Infections categorized into superficial, cutaneous, and subcutaneous mycoses.
Coagulase-Positive Staphylococcus
Staphylococcus classified by the production of the coagulase enzyme, specifically Staphylococcus aureus.
Coagulase-Negative Staphylococci
Staphylococcus species lacking coagulase, such as Staphylococcus epidermidis (found on skin) and Staphylococcus saprophyticus (found in the urinary tract).
Staphylococcus aureus Morphology
Gram positive, spherical or oval cocci that are majority found in clusters and are non-motile, non-capsulated, and non-spore forming.
Staphylococcal Cluster Formation
Pattern resulting from sequential division of bacteria in three perpendicular planes with daughter cells tending to remain in close proximity with incomplete cytokinesis.
Staphylococcus aureus Culture Characteristics
Aerobic or facultative anaerobe growing in a temperature range of 10 - 42°C (optimum 37°C) and optimum pH of 7.4 - 7.6.
