Reflexive pronoun placement with infinitives

Two options: Me quiero sentir seguro = Quiero sentirme seguro (pronoun before conjugated verb OR attached to infinitive)

The 'boot shape' rule for stem-changing verbs

Stem changes (e→ie, o→ue, e→i) happen in ALL forms EXCEPT nosotros and vosotros

-ER/-IR verbs → gerundio

comer → comiendo, vivir → viviendo (-iendo)

Irregular gerundios

leer → leyendo, dormir → durmiendo, pedir → pidiendo, ir → yendo, decir → diciendo

Don't overuse estar + gerundio!

Spanish uses simple present much more than English. 'I work in London' = Trabajo en Londres (NOT Estoy trabajando). Only use for RIGHT NOW

¿Te importaría + infinitive?

Would you mind…? (informal): ¿Te importaría abrir la ventana?

¿Le importaría + infinitive?

Would you mind…? (formal/usted): ¿Le importaría repetir, por favor?

Formality scale for requests

Least → most formal: ¡Abre! → ¿Puedes abrir? → ¿Podrías abrir? → ¿Te importaría abrir? → ¿Le importaría abrir?
