Social Psychology
The study of how thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are influenced by the actual, imagined or perceived presence of other people.
Situational Attributions
Explains an event or behavior by attributing it to factors outside the individual. Environmental/circumstances factors.
Fundamental Attributions
The assumption that people are in control of their behavior.
Just World Hypothesis
The belief that people get the outcomes they deserve.
Out group Homogeneity
A form of bias where people perceive other members of groups whom are they are not apart of, to be similar to each other which leads to generalization of people groups.
Actor Observer Bias
A psychological phenomenon where people attribute their behaviors to external factors and other people’s behaviors to internal factors.
Self Service Bias
Attributing our successes to our efforts/qualities while attributing our failures to external factors or other people.
Deindividuation
The psychological state that occurs when people lose their sense of identity and self when they are apart of a group.
Bystander Effect
the phenomenon where individuals are less likely to help or intervene in an emergency situation when others are present, compared to when they are alone.
Stereotype
a fixed, oversimplified, and often biased belief about a group of people that are inaccurate.
